Croydon University Hospital’s sexual health clinic – The Point – is one of south London’s only sexual health centres. Hundreds of people need its vital treatments, tests, and facilities every week, but in order to do so must queue outside – in full view of the public – on one of the busiest roads in the borough.

Sexual health is a deeply personal matter, and some may feel cultural or family pressures about their sex lives – particularly LGBTQI+ people of colour.

Those in the BAME community make up around 80pc of the population of West Thornton (the ward where the hospital is located). Queer people of colour who have not come out to their friends and families are at particular risk of being ‘outed’ as a result of this oversight.

The Croydon Labour Party is therefore calling on Croydon University Hospital to change the flow of its queue away from the glare of the public so that those most vulnerable can have their identities better protected, and encourage repeat check-ups from those most concerned with maintaining their privacy.
