Croydon Labour’s Response to the Penn Report

“Croydon Labour has always been clear and public about our support for the publication of the Penn report.

We have been frustrated at how long it has taken to reach this point, but yesterday Labour councillors finally got the chance to vote to publish the Penn report and with other councillors we voted unanimously to do so.

The Penn Report is difficult reading for us, but the public deserve to see the report and read its recommendations. Our residents have a right to know what led to the council’s financial challenges so that we can ensure this never happens again.

The Penn Report should not be used as a political football. It is a tool to support the continued renewal of good governance in the council that began in November 2020.

Labour in Croydon is under new management and our Group culture has changed significantly since the period covered by the report. As Leader, I have been clear that all of us must work hard to rebuild trust with the people of Croydon after such a period of turmoil.”

Cllr Stuart King, Labour Group Leader.
